Wolff Speaks After Bahrain GP In Malaysia: "My Disappointment Is Huge"

My Disappointment Is Huge

· 1 min read

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff told Sky Sports F1 after the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia that he is hugely disappointed with the team's weekend performance. He said the result was one of his worst race experiences.

Wolff explained that George Russell's problem in the closing laps of the race was a power unit failure and not caused by the Safety Car, adding that the team has not yet assessed the cause. He said the failure is bad news for Russell's championship hopes and for Mercedes' points in the constructors' standings.

According to Wolff, the problems began before the race. The team arrived without the pace it had hoped for, and there is a lot of work to do to close that gap, although he is confident they will manage it. He said the race itself went completely against them, especially with Lewis Hamilton putting pressure on from behind, and that they were unlucky during the Safety Car periods.

Kimi Antonelli finished second to give Mercedes its only positive result of the weekend. Wolff added that he loves racing at Sepang but did not enjoy this weekend.
