Russell Tops First Practice For The Singapore GP, Leclerc And Norris Close Behind

George Russell was the quickest driver in first practice for the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. The Mercedes driver finished the session on top with a 1:32.274 set on soft tyres.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was second, 0.198 seconds behind, and McLaren’s Lando Norris third, 0.273 seconds back. Leclerc’s team mate Lewis Hamilton was fourth, 0.547 seconds off the pace, with Norris’s team mate Oscar Piastri fifth, 0.564 seconds behind. The top five were separated by just over half a second.

Max Verstappen, who opted for the medium tyre, was sixth, 1.034 seconds behind Russell. Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli was seventh and Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar eighth. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was ninth and Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson tenth.

Further back were Oliver Bearman (Haas), Arvid Lindblad (Racing Bulls), Esteban Ocon (Haas), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Carlos Sainz (Williams) and Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi). The first 16 drivers were all within two and a half seconds of the leader. Nico Hulkenberg was 18th on the hard tyre.

Cadillac’s Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas ended the session in the last two positions, more than three seconds off the top.

Singapore is a sprint weekend this season and teams have only a single hour-long practice session. The data from this session will therefore be important preparation for sprint qualifying.
