Hamilton Feels Unwell After Singapore GP, Checked By FIA Medical Team
Lewis Hamilton was checked by the FIA medical team after feeling unwell following the hot and humid Singapore Grand Prix and was excused from post-race media duties. It is the second time in three years he has been taken ill after the race in Singapore.
Ferrari has confirmed that Lewis Hamilton felt unwell after the Singapore Grand Prix and was seen by the FIA medical team. A team spokesperson also said Hamilton had been given permission by the FIA not to attend the post-race media pen. At the time of reporting, no further update on the seven-time world champion’s health had been given.
The Singapore Grand Prix is known as one of the most physically demanding races on the F1 calendar because of its hot and humid conditions, and this year’s race was declared a heat hazard event. It is not the first time Hamilton has struggled there. In 2024, while still at Mercedes, he and team mate George Russell both suffered from dehydration and heat exhaustion after the race. This makes it the second time in three years that Hamilton has been taken ill after the Singapore Grand Prix.
The 62-lap race was tough for Hamilton both physically and competitively. Starting third, the Ferrari driver chose to stay out despite a pit call from his team during a late Virtual Safety Car period. That decision left him on heavily worn soft tyres in the closing laps. Lacking grip, he could not defend his position and was passed by team mate Charles Leclerc as well as Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, finishing sixth.
After the race, Hamilton apologised to his crew over the radio, saying the strategy was his call and that it had cost the team valuable points. Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur told Sky Sports F1 that the team had kept both options open depending on the VSC, but that the plan was to double-stack both cars and Hamilton chose to stay out.
